Opened in 2004 by Lord Melvyn Bragg the café was set up with a generous grant from Barclays and the support of Oxford City Council and the Baptist Union. Since then the café has become the heart of the Centre where people are able to enjoy good food at good prices in an environment that is comfortable and friendly for all ages.

As well as providing great food the café provides great opportunities for training for independent living. A small paid staff are supported by a team of volunteers and people on placement. Young people and adults on work experience from schools and colleges are taught catering skills and food preparation and there’s an after-school cookery club for children called Clubgrub. Working in partnership with the East Oxford healthy Living Initiative the café has trained 15 people for the Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene.  

The café is open Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm and offers a wide range of high quality coffee and tea, stunning chocolate, soft drinks, milk shakes with real fruit, baguettes, jacket potatoes, and a varied menu of main courses throughout the week. It uses a lot of locally grown fruit and vegetables and, whenever it can, uses fairly traded products (including all the tea and coffee). Promoting healthy eating, the café was featured in the Oxford Times and described as offering ‘freshly cooked food from wholesome ingredients’. Great food at great prices!

As well as being open 10am - 3pm each weekday, the café also provides catering for conferences at the Centre, is open at other times when there are special events or large groups meeting and is an ideal space as a small music venue. The cafe can also be booked for private functions with full catering.
