Ernesto Lozada-Uzuriaga (Leon-Judah)

(b. Lima, Peru 1961)

‘A wanderer between two worlds, who was brought up in the tension between the old world and the new.

Dieter Schnabel  art critic- Ditzingen Germany

Ernesto studied art with a personal tutor from an early age in his native Peru, winning several awards in art competitions.  However, in 1983 he put aside his artistic pursuits in order to embark on studies in theology and anthropology.

The rising political tensions of his country finally forced Ernesto into exile in 1987. He spent some time in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Barcelona, Spain before eventually adopting England as his home later that same year.

In 1990, after a sixteen-year gap, Ernesto returned to painting.  Since then he has built a substantial body of work, finding a distinctive style which reveals both the richness of his native culture and the influence of Western tradition. His paintings have been exhibited widely both in Europe and the UK.  His work is held in private collections in the UK, Germany and the United States, and in public collections including at the World Bank, Washington DC, Northern Light Gallery, London Heathrow Airport, Wycliffe Hall, Oxford.

Ernesto is co-founder of the Ark T Centre and at the present day he combines his creative work mainly graphic work with his pastoral responsibilities as a priest in the Church of England.
