What is it?

The Ark T Studio is a dedicated recording studio and rehearsal space for young people. Set up in 2001 with a grant from the Princes Trust, the studio has been used by hundreds of young people over the past 5 years. The studio is now established as a permanent facility offering regular sessions for young people to develop and record their music.

Who is it for?

The studio is available for use by young people living in Oxfordshire aged 13-19, we make a priority to work with those who would not otherwise have the opportunity. As well as young people accessing the facilities directly, we also work with referrals from schools and partner agencies such as Social Services, the Youth Offending Team and Connexions.

For more info on the studio contact Jon Fletcher on 01865 396778 or email music@ark-t.org

What facilities are there?

We have a drum kit, guitar and bass amps, digital piano, keyboard, PA, microphones, PC running various recording and production software, Roland VS1680 digital 16-track recorder and a Soundcraft SX mixing desk. We have recently received a grant to upgrade and expand the studio's equipment, so we'll be able to offer even better facilities.

What can I do there?

Rehearse, record, perfect your sound, and take home a CD!
We help young bands get started in getting their act together. We can offer help and advice whatever stage you're at, give you opportunities to perform (and make a live recording) at our Live Sessions events, and record you in the studio. We've produced all sorts of music including rock, indie, metal, pop, hip-hop, drum'n'bass, R'n'B, gospel, folk, jazz, classical and everything in between. As well as recording singers and bands, we can help you create tracks using music technology, and offer hands-on experience in engineering or music production.

What does it cost?

We aim to make the facilities accesible to all young people regardless of their ability to pay, but people using the studio are invited to make a contribution if they are able, which helps to support the running costs of the studio.

Other projects.

As well as the youth music project, the studio takes on a limited number of additional recording projects. In the past year these have included CDs to accompany music tutorial books published by Oxford Univerity Press, two pieces specially commisioned by Oxford Youth Dance for a performance at Pegasus Theatre, music and voiceovers for a documentary film, and recordings by local bands and singer-songwriters.
