Live Sessions
The Ark T runs regular live events, giving young musicians a chance to perform in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Previous events have included Unplugged and Live Sessions nights at Ark T, special gigs at the Zodiac showcasing more experienced bands, and running the Youth stage in 2004 and 2005 at the Cowley Road Carnival
Performers range from 11-19 in age and play anything from folk to hip hop, metal to singer- songwriter material. The evening is run as a recorded session with a live audience. Acts do shortish sets, with a longer one at the end for a more experienced band. The recording is put on a CD and highlights sent out to young people that have put their name down on the night.
These sessions have so far given a much needed chance for young bands and acts to get some vital gigging experience before playing at local music venues. Many of these have few under- 18 nights and it’s daunting for young bands to know how best to approach local promoters. The music project gives advice to young bands on how to move up to this next stage. Now established local bands such as the The Vultures and Baby Gravy have benefited from the experience gained at Ark T.
