Martha Mary Fernback’s life was tragically cut short, aged 15, when she died of an accidental ecstasy overdose at Hinksey Park, Oxford in July 2013.
In 2018, when Martha would have turned 21, Ark-T in collaboration with Martha’s Mum, Anne-Marie, launched a donor campaign to raise money for an annual prize in Martha’s name. The prize includes a year’s artistic mentoring and life coaching, for one young woman from Oxfordshire who has faced tough times, to help her find her voice through creativity.
The first recipient of the prize is Rossie Florida Lay. She is working with professional illustrator Anya Jung, to explore her talent for illustration.
Rossie has painted Martha’s favourite pair of Converse trainers in memory of Martha and to launch the start of her year’s award.
Rossie will have her own exhibition here at Ark-T in 2020.
