Trish Elphinstone

Trish Elphinstone Biog BA Music /BSc Environment Science

Trish Elphinstone is a professional jazz/world musician, composer and music teacher.  Trish plays alto and soprano saxophone.  Trish grew up on Blackbird Leys and this shaped her involvement in community activism

Music, art and community are her passion.  She has her own jazz quartet called the Oxford Jazz Kitchen Quartet and plays for the Cutting Edge Big Band 

For many years she has been involved in music and arts projects across Oxford. 

From

  • Music technology sessions and live music performance as a youth worker in Blackbird Leys in the 1990-1999
  • Dissertation on Django Reinhardts Gypsy influence on Jazz
  • Oxford Jazz Festival Organisor for JazzFactor for young people in jazz 2007-2009
  • Her Romany Road Composition was performed by the Oxford Improvisors Orchestra and conducted by Pat Thomas in November 2009 
  • Founder member Confluence Collective who brings diverse people together through music. poetry and dance
  • Oxford Jazz Kitchen – a jam session for local jazz musicians in residence at the White Hart Pub, Wolvercote 2009 to date
  • Trish organises promotes local jazz musicians at the Rose and Crown on Sunday evenings
  • She fundraised and coordinated the Headington Community Mural 
  • Initiated funded the Cowley Bridge mural with local artists and schools
  • She is attending the Sunningwell School of Art

As having an interest in music arts, Trish has been active in the local community as 

  • County Councillor for Rose Hill and Littlemore 2023-25
  • Trustee for Headington Community Centre
  • Trustee for Rose Hill Youth Club
  • Trustee for Rose Hill and Donnington

Music, Art, Well-Being and Community play a very important role in many people’s lives.  Especially for those who have limited access.   Ark-T project plays a central role in bringing communities together.  Which is why I fully support the project and want to be a pro-active member in bringing my community experience as Advisory Board Agent
